ChatGPT for travel agents: quote real flights, not guesses

ChatGPT is good at the writing side of a travel agent's day: emails, itineraries, translations and summaries of fare rules. On its own it can't quote a flight, because it can't see live availability or your agency's fares. Connect it to your Amadeus contract through an MCP server such as GateRoam and it can: it searches and prices flights on your own keys, picks the best options, and turns them into a branded client offer, while you stay in control of what it may do.

What can ChatGPT do for a travel agent on its own?

Quite a lot of the work around a booking:

• draft and translate client emails;
• turn your notes into a readable day-by-day itinerary;
• explain fare rules or visa requirements in plain language (always check the official source);
• compare hotels or destinations from what you paste in.

What it can't do is look into your Amadeus contract. It has no live availability, no fares from your office and no access to your bookings.

Why shouldn't you quote flight prices from a plain ChatGPT chat?

A price in a plain chat comes from the model's training data or from public web pages. It isn't a fare Amadeus just returned for your client's dates, on your contract, with seats behind it. Fares change by the hour, and a quote that's off by a fare class costs you money or credibility.

Two rules keep AI quotes honest:

1. Every price comes from the supplier, at the moment you ask.
2. Totals are calculated in code, never by the model. Language models are good with words and unreliable with arithmetic.

GateRoam follows both. Prices come from Amadeus on your keys, and every total and duration is calculated by GateRoam before ChatGPT sees it.

How does ChatGPT get live Amadeus fares?

Through MCP (Model Context Protocol), the standard ChatGPT and Claude use to call outside tools (modelcontextprotocol.io). GateRoam is an MCP server that sits between ChatGPT and your Amadeus contract:

1. Create a free GateRoam account for your agency and add your Amadeus Enterprise or Quick Connect keys. GateRoam tests them and shows which Amadeus APIs your contract includes.
2. Turn on developer mode in ChatGPT. OpenAI lists it for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education accounts, on the web, under Settings → Security and login (OpenAI developer docs).
3. Add GateRoam as a developer-mode app with the server URL https://gateroam.com/mcp, choose OAuth and leave the client ID empty, then sign in with your GateRoam account.

What does a quoting session look like?

You write the way you'd brief a colleague:

Vienna to Bangkok, 3–17 February 2027, 2 adults and a child of 8, economy,
one checked bag each. Show me the best options.

Price options 1 and 3 and show their fare families.

Make a client offer for the Novak family with options 1 and 3, valid until Friday.

Behind those three messages, ChatGPT uses GateRoam's tools:

• Search. One-way, return or multi-city, with flexible dates and nearby airports when they could be cheaper. The answer is a short table with the cheapest, fastest and best-value option already picked, plus links to the same flights on Google Flights and Skyscanner.
• Price and fare families. The current price from Amadeus, and branded fares side by side (baggage, changes, refunds).
• Client offer. A web page in your agency's branding, copy-paste text for email or WhatsApp, and a PDF. The link works as soon as it's made, and you can edit the text before you send it.

The agent then books in Amadeus. GateRoam can give the entries to build the booking by hand, but nothing in GateRoam books, tickets or pays. All features: Features.

Is it safe to connect ChatGPT to your Amadeus contract?

It is when the controls sit outside the chat:

• Your keys stay with GateRoam. They are stored encrypted and never sent to ChatGPT.
• Your admins decide what the AI may use, for the whole agency or per colleague. Tools that are off are not shown to ChatGPT at all.
• Nothing can book, ticket or pay.
• Every AI call is logged under the colleague who made it.
