How to connect Claude to Amadeus, step by step
To connect Claude to Amadeus you need three things: Amadeus Enterprise or Quick Connect API keys, an MCP server that calls Amadeus with those keys, and a Claude plan with custom connectors (every plan has them, including Free). GateRoam is that MCP server. You create a free account, add your Amadeus keys, choose what the AI may do, and add GateRoam as a custom connector in Claude with one address, no client ID. Then you ask for flights in plain language.
What do you need to connect Claude to Amadeus?
- An Amadeus Enterprise or Quick Connect contract. Self-Service keys stopped working when Amadeus shut down Self-Service on 17 July 2026. If that's what you used, read Amadeus Self-Service shutdown: keep quoting flights with AI first.
- A Claude plan. Custom connectors work on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, on claude.ai and Claude Desktop. Free users can add one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise, only Owners can add a connector (Claude help center).
- A free GateRoam account for your agency. No card needed.
Why can't Claude talk to Amadeus directly?
Claude calls outside systems through MCP, "an open-source standard for connecting AI applications to external systems" (modelcontextprotocol.io). Amadeus has no generally available MCP server: the toolkit it announced with Anthropic on 3 September 2026 is on a waitlist (Skift).
The Amadeus Enterprise APIs are REST APIs that you call with your agency's client ID and secret. Those keys must never be pasted into a chat. An MCP server sits in between: it keeps the keys, calls Amadeus, and gives Claude only tools such as "search flights" and "price this offer".
The server also has to be on the internet. When you use a custom connector on claude.ai, "the connection to your MCP server originates from Anthropic's servers, not from your machine's network interface" (Claude help center). A script running on your own laptop won't work; a hosted server such as GateRoam does.
Step 1: Create a free GateRoam account and your agency
- Go to Start free. Enter your name, work email and a password, or sign up with Google.
- Open the confirmation link in the email GateRoam sends you.
- On Set up your agency, enter the agency name and country and click Create agency.
The person who creates the agency becomes its owner. Only the owner and admins can change what the AI is allowed to do.
Step 2: Add your Amadeus keys
In GateRoam, open Settings → Suppliers, click Add supplier and pick Amadeus. Choose Production (or Test for a trial), then paste the API key and API secret from your Amadeus Enterprise or Quick Connect contract (Amadeus also calls them the client ID and client secret). GateRoam tests them straight away and shows which Amadeus APIs your contract allows, so you know before you start whether flight search, pricing or fare families are included.
Your keys are stored encrypted and are never sent to the browser or to the AI (Security).
Step 3: Choose what the AI may do
Open Settings → AI access. It lists the tools your AI can use, grouped by supplier: searching, pricing, fare families and client offers are on by default, and nothing there can book, ticket or pay. Switch a tool off and it is gone for the whole agency. Admins can also give colleagues their own access groups.
Tools you switch off are not shown to Claude at all, so the model can't try to use them.
Step 4: Add GateRoam as a custom connector in Claude
You only need the GateRoam server URL, https://gateroam.com/mcp (it is also shown in GateRoam under
Settings → AI connections). No client ID: Claude signs in with its own published identity, and you sign in with
your GateRoam account.
On Free, Pro or Max:
- In Claude, open Customize → Connectors.
- Click + Add, then Add custom connector.
- Name it GateRoam, paste the server URL and click Continue. Keep the sign-in settings Claude detects and click Continue again.
- Under OAuth client, keep Use Claude's published identity.
- Click Add, then Connect. Sign in with your GateRoam account and press Allow.
On Team or Enterprise:
- The Claude Owner opens Organization settings → Connectors, clicks Add, hovers over Custom and selects Web, then pastes the GateRoam server URL.
- Each member then opens Customize → Connectors, finds GateRoam and clicks Connect. They sign in with their own GateRoam account, so each person gets their own connection and their own access.
You can connect GateRoam in as many Claude accounts as you like. Each connected account is listed in GateRoam on its own, and you can revoke it there at any time.
To use it in a chat, click + in the lower left of the message box, open Connectors and turn GateRoam on (Claude help center).
Step 5: Ask Claude for flights in plain language
Write the way you'd brief a colleague. For example:
Find return flights Zagreb to New York, 12–19 March 2027, 2 adults, economy,
with a checked bag. Show me the 3 best options.
Price option 2 and tell me the baggage and change rules.
Make a client offer for the Horvat family with options 1 and 3.
Claude calls GateRoam, GateRoam calls Amadeus with your keys, and the results come back into the chat. Prices and totals come from Amadeus and are calculated in code, never guessed by the model.
What can Claude do on your Amadeus contract, and what can't it?
| What the AI can do | Default | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Search flights (one-way, return, multi-city) | On | Uses Amadeus flight offers search on your contract |
| Check availability and fare families | On | Shows branded fares where your contract allows them |
| Price a flight offer | On | Confirms the current price with Amadeus |
| Create a client offer | On | A branded web page, copy-paste text and PDF for your client |
| Hold, book or issue tickets | Off | Not available yet; will always need owner or admin approval outside the chat |
The AI can never approve its own request. More on how access is limited: Security.
Does this work with ChatGPT too?
Yes. ChatGPT connects to MCP servers through developer mode, which OpenAI lists for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education accounts, on the web only (OpenAI developer docs). Turn it on under Settings → Security and login, then add GateRoam as a developer-mode app with the server URL and OAuth.
The GateRoam side is the same: the same server URL, no client ID (ChatGPT signs in with its own identity too), and the same owner controls. See Connect Claude or ChatGPT to Amadeus.
Troubleshooting
- The key test fails. Check that the keys come from an Amadeus Enterprise or Quick Connect contract. Keys from the old Self-Service portal were disabled on 17 July 2026.
- You can't add a connector on a Team or Enterprise plan. Only the Claude Owner can add custom connectors. Ask them to add GateRoam under Organization settings → Connectors.
- Claude Free won't let you add GateRoam. Free allows one custom connector. Remove the one you have, or upgrade.
- Claude doesn't use the flight tools. Check that GateRoam is turned on under + → Connectors in the chat, and that the tools you need are on in GateRoam under Settings → AI access.
