Amadeus Self-Service shutdown: keep quoting flights with AI

Amadeus shut down its Self-Service APIs on 17 July 2026. Here's how GateRoam keeps your agency quoting flights with Claude or ChatGPT on your own contract.
By GateRoam team Updated

Amadeus shut down its Self-Service APIs on 17 July 2026 and disabled every Self-Service API key. Every tool built on those keys stopped working that day, including the open-source Amadeus MCP servers that let Claude and ChatGPT search flights. GateRoam gets your agency quoting again: it connects Claude or ChatGPT to your agency's own Amadeus contract, so you can search, price and send client offers from a chat. It's free during early access.

What happened to Amadeus Self-Service?

Amadeus closed the Self-Service section of its Amadeus for Developers portal on 17 July 2026. It told users in a letter that new registrations would be paused, that the portal would be "fully decommissioned for existing users on July 17", and that on that date "API keys will be disabled, and the self-service portal will be inaccessible" (PhocusWire, 9 February 2026; TravelTrade Today, 10 February 2026).

The shutdown went ahead as planned. Skift described the Amadeus developer portal as one "which it shut down on July 17 in favor of request-based Enterprise APIs" (Skift, 3 September 2026). Amadeus did not give a reason. Its Enterprise APIs are not affected: an Amadeus spokesperson said "the Enterprise portal and Enterprise APIs remain fully available".

What stopped working when Self-Service shut down?

Anything that called Amadeus with a Self-Service key:

  • Scripts and small tools that agencies used to search fares and build quotes.
  • Open-source Amadeus MCP servers, the connectors that let Claude, ChatGPT and other AI assistants search flights. They were built on Self-Service keys because those were free and instant to get.
  • AI assistant setups that depended on those servers. The assistant is still there; the flight tools are not.

Visitors to the Amadeus developer site now see: "Amadeus for Developers self-service portal has been decommissioned on July 17th, this website is for Amadeus Enterprise API Portal only", as quoted in an issue on one open-source travel MCP project (GitHub, 5 September 2026).

Why is it hard to rebuild this on Amadeus Enterprise APIs?

The Enterprise APIs give you the Amadeus content, but not the tools around it. To let an AI assistant quote flights on an Enterprise contract, someone has to:

  1. Build and host an MCP server. Claude and ChatGPT connect from their own servers, so it has to run on the internet, not on a laptop.
  2. Handle sign-in. AI assistants connect to MCP servers with OAuth, so each colleague signs in safely.
  3. Protect the Amadeus keys. They must never be pasted into a chat or reach the AI.
  4. Limit what the AI may do. Searching is harmless; booking and ticketing move money.
  5. Keep prices exact. A language model must never calculate or round a fare.
  6. Turn results into something a client can read. A raw API response is not a quote.

That is a software project, not a settings change. GateRoam is that project, built for travel agencies.

How does GateRoam solve it?

GateRoam sits between your AI assistant and your Amadeus contract and does all six jobs for you:

  • Your contract, your fares. GateRoam calls Amadeus with your agency's own Enterprise or Quick Connect keys. It tests them and shows which Amadeus APIs your contract allows. It never resells flight content.
  • Claude, ChatGPT or any MCP client. Add GateRoam as a connector and sign in with your GateRoam account. Then ask for flights in plain language. How to connect Claude to Amadeus, step by step.
  • Owner controls. The agency owner chooses what the AI may do. Search, price and client offers are on by default; anything that moves money is off, and it can never happen without a human.
  • Keys kept safe. Your Amadeus keys are stored encrypted and are never sent to the browser or the AI. Security.
  • Prices computed in code. Fares and totals come from Amadeus, never guessed by the model.
  • Client offers in one click. Pick 1–3 options and GateRoam turns them into a branded web page, copy-paste text and a PDF for your client. All features.
  • More than Amadeus. Amadeus is our first connector. More are coming, and we build custom connectors for other suppliers and your own systems. Custom connectors.
  • The Amadeus guide. Your AI assistant searches step-by-step guides written from the Amadeus documentation, for onboarding new agents and everyday questions. It needs no API keys. Amadeus training with AI.
  • Free during early access. No card, no trial, every feature included.

A typical request looks like this:

Find return flights Zagreb to New York, 12–19 March 2027, 2 adults, economy,
with a checked bag. Show me the 3 best options.

Make a client offer for the Horvat family with options 1 and 3.

How do you move from Amadeus Self-Service to GateRoam?

  1. Get Amadeus Enterprise or Quick Connect credentials. This is the one step GateRoam can't do for you, because Amadeus contracts are with your agency. Ask your local Amadeus office. For Quick Connect, Amadeus says you can be "up and running in 4 to 6 weeks" (Amadeus Quick Connect). If your agency already has Enterprise access, you're ready.
  2. Create a free GateRoam account and set up your agency. Start free.
  3. Add your Amadeus keys. GateRoam tests them straight away.
  4. Choose what the AI may do.
  5. Connect Claude or ChatGPT and start quoting.
