When
A client says "Frankfurt" and you need the code, or a display shows a code you do not recognise
(an airline LF, an aircraft E90, a country IE).
Steps
| # | Entry | What it does | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | DAN FRANKFURT · DAN CIN* | Finds the code for a place (full name · beginning of a name). | Encode a city or airport before searching. |
| 2 | DAN PARIS/S | Shows the airports that belong to a city. | Paris = CDG + ORY (+ BVA): pick the right one or search the city. |
| 3 | DAC CHI · DAC CHI/ALL | Decodes a code to its place · with every associated location. | What is behind a code on a display. |
| 4 | DNA LF · DNA DELTA · DNA 057 | Decodes an airline code · encodes an airline name · decodes a ticket prefix (057 = Air France). | The 3-digit prefix of a ticket tells you the validating airline. |
| 5 | DNE M54 · DNE AIRBUS | Decodes · encodes an aircraft type. | Know what the client will fly. |
| 6 | DC GB · DC FRANCE · DC NOR | Decodes a country · encodes a country · decodes a nationality code. | Passport and APIS data use country codes. |
| 7 | DNS USFL · DNS US | Decodes a state · lists the states of a country. | US and Canadian addresses (APIS). |
| 8 | DB LON | Lists the boarding points of a city. | Which airports and stations serve it. |

The answer lists the name and code; for a city, all its airports.
Traps
- City code vs airport code.
LONis the city (all London airports);LHRis Heathrow. Search and price with what the client can accept; a ticket shows airports. - Similar codes differ by one letter (
LJULjubljana,LUZLublin) — decode when in doubt, before you sell. - Codeshare flights show the marketing airline; the operating airline is on the flight line (see Flight information — times, stops, aircraft, operating carrier (DO)).
