Claude for travel agents: quote flights on your own contract

Claude is good at the words around a booking: client emails, day-by-day itineraries, translations and fare rules in plain language. On its own it can't quote a flight, because it can't see availability or your agency's fares. Add an MCP server such as GateRoam as a custom connector and it can: Claude searches and prices flights on your own Amadeus contract, picks the best options, turns them into a branded client offer and, after your yes, holds the booking. It works on every Claude plan, including Free.

What can Claude do for a travel agent on its own?

The writing and reading side of the job:

• draft and translate client emails and WhatsApp messages;
• turn your notes into a readable itinerary;
• explain fare rules, visa rules or a supplier's terms in plain words (always check the official source);
• read a PDF the client sent, such as a hotel contract or an old booking, and pull out what matters.

Projects help with the agency side. A project keeps its own chats, files and instructions: Anthropic describes them as "self-contained workspaces with their own chat histories and knowledge bases". Put your house style, your supplier notes and your standard terms in one project, and every chat in it starts from them. Projects are on every plan, including Free, and Team and Enterprise members can share them with colleagues (Claude help center).

What Claude can't do alone is look into your Amadeus contract: no live availability, no fares from your office and no access to your bookings.

Why not quote prices from a plain Claude chat?

A price in a plain chat comes from what the model learned or from public web pages. It isn't a fare Amadeus just returned for your client's dates, on your contract, with seats behind it. Two rules keep AI quotes honest:

1. Every price comes from the supplier, at the moment you ask.
2. Totals are calculated in code, never by the model.

GateRoam follows both: prices come from Amadeus on your keys, and every total and travel time is worked out by GateRoam before Claude sees it.

How does Claude get your Amadeus fares?

Through MCP (Model Context Protocol), the open standard Claude uses to call outside tools. GateRoam is an MCP server between Claude and your Amadeus contract:

1. Create a free GateRoam account for your agency and add your Amadeus Enterprise or Quick Connect keys. GateRoam tests them and shows which Amadeus APIs your contract includes.
2. Add GateRoam as a custom connector with the server URL https://gateroam.com/mcp. On Free, Pro and Max that's under Customize → Connectors; on Team and Enterprise an Owner adds it in Organization settings → Connectors (Claude help center). No client ID: keep "Use Claude's published identity".
3. Sign in with your GateRoam account and press Allow. Each colleague connects and signs in as themselves.

The connection runs from Anthropic's servers, not your computer, and the help center says this "is true across every Claude client, including claude.ai, Claude Desktop, Cowork, and the mobile apps".

What does a quoting session look like?

Brief Claude the way you'd brief a colleague:

Ljubljana to Osaka on 3 March, Osaka to Mumbai on 10 March, Mumbai back to
Ljubljana on 17 March, 1 adult, economy. Show me the best options.

Price the best-value option and show its fare families.

Make a client offer for Ana Novak with that option, valid until Friday.

Book it for Ana Novak.

Behind those four messages, Claude uses GateRoam's tools:

What about the Amadeus plugin for Claude?

Amadeus is working with Anthropic on a Claude Code toolkit for developers and a Claude Cowork plugin for travel professionals. Neither is generally available yet, and the terms aren't published. Is it safe to connect Claude to your Amadeus contract?

Claude's help center warns that custom connectors connect Claude "to services that haven't been verified by Anthropic", so check any server before you add it. Our checklist: What is an MCP server?. GateRoam's answers:

• Your keys stay with GateRoam, encrypted, and never reach Claude.
• Your admins decide which tools each colleague gets. Tools that are off are never shown to Claude.
• Holds are made on your own Amadeus contract, only after the agent's yes, and listed under the colleague who asked. An admin switches holding on.
• Every AI call is logged under the colleague who made it.
