When
You are about to build your first booking, or Amadeus refuses to save (ER) and you need to know
what is missing.
What it is
A PNR (Passenger Name Record) is a list of numbered elements. Five of them make a bookable record:
| Element | Entry | What it holds | Why the airline / your agency needs it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Name | NM | every passenger, as on the passport | The ticket is issued to this exact name. |
| Itinerary | SS (sell) | flight segments with class and status | What is booked. |
| Contact | AP / APE | phone, email | Who to reach about changes. |
| Ticketing arrangement | TK | when it will be ticketed (TKOK, TKTL…) | Drives queues and deadlines. |
| Received from | RF | who asked for this change | The audit trail in the history. |
Everything else is optional or added later: SSRs (meals, passport data), OSIs, remarks, seats, and
the fare elements added before ticketing (form of payment FP, commission FM, validating carrier
FV), the stored fare (TST) and, after issue, the ticket numbers (FA lines).
Steps
| # | Entry | What it does | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | RT + locator | Shows a saved PNR — look at how the elements are numbered. | Changes and cancellations refer to element numbers (XE4, 5/…). |
| 2 | build the five elements | See Build a new PNR from start to finish. | A PNR without them cannot be ended. |
| 3 | ER | Saves and redisplays. | The record locator appears. |
Check it worked
The saved PNR shows a six-character record locator, the passengers, the segments with status HK,
the contact, the TK element and the RF.
Traps
- Element numbers change when you add or delete elements — always re-display (
RT) before an entry that uses a number. - Passenger association: many elements can belong to one passenger (
/P2) or one segment (/S3). Without it they apply to all.
