When
An airline (or a market) requires a form of identification in the PNR before an e-ticket can be issued — the passenger shows that document at check-in instead of a paper ticket.
Steps
| # | Entry | What it does | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | SR FOID BA HK1-DL12345678/P1 | FOID for passenger 1 (here ID type DL + number). | The identifier the airline checks. |
| 2 | SR FOID IB -DL12345678 | FOID for all passengers. | |
| 3 | SR FOID IB HK3-DL12345678/P1-2,4 | FOID for several passengers. | |
| 4 | SR FOID LH HK2-CC-L3 | FOID from the credit card stored in the FP element on line 3. | Use the payment card as ID. |
| 5 | SR FOID AF HK1-FF-L7/P1 | FOID from a frequent flyer number on line 7. |
Check it worked
RTG shows the SR FOID. An e-ticket record can later be displayed by FOID:
TWD/VLA/FOID-FF12345678.
Traps
- Which ID types an airline accepts is airline-specific — read
GG AIR <code>before issuing. - FOID is not the same as APIS (DOCS): an airline may need both.
- If the ticketing entry refuses to issue because of a missing FOID, add it and re-issue — do not change airline or fare to get around it.
