When
A flight in the PNR shows a two-letter code other than HK, or a queue brings a PNR back because
the airline changed a status.
The codes you meet most
| Code | Meaning | What you do |
|---|---|---|
SS / NN / LK | Sell request being sent (action codes) | Nothing — becomes a status after the airline answers or after ER. |
HK | Confirmed | Normal. |
HL | Waitlisted | Not a seat. Tell the client; watch the queue (Waitlisting a full class, and what happens next). |
HN | Requested, no answer yet | Wait; check again. |
KK / KL | Airline confirms (from request / from waitlist) | Accept with ERK → becomes HK. |
UC / UN / NO / US | Unable, not operating, no action | Not booked. Rebook an alternative, then ERK moves these to history. |
TK | Schedule change, new times confirmed | Check the connection still works, tell the client, accept (Handling an airline schedule change (TK, UN segments)). |
HX | Cancelled by the airline | Remove it and rebook. |
GK / PK | Passive segment (booked outside Amadeus) | See Passive, ghost, information and open segments — and why passive segments are risky. |
The full list: GG CODE, and how to respond to each: HE PNR STA.
Steps
| # | Entry | What it does | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | RTA | Shows the segments with their status. | Find the non-HK ones. |
| 2 | fix the itinerary | Rebook (SB), sell alternatives, cancel refused ones. | The client must end up with HK flights. |
| 3 | ERK (or ETK) | Ends; KK/KL → HK; NO/UN/UC → history. | Clean PNR. |
| 4 | 2/HK | Changes segment 2's status to HK by hand. | Only when the airline confirmed outside Amadeus — rare. |
Traps
- Never ticket a segment that is not
HK— the ticket is worthless if the seat does not exist. - A Standard Access airline can still reject an
HKwithin 12 hours — see Access levels — what the symbol next to a flight tells you about your booking. - If the PNR is ticketed, a status change on a flight usually means revalidation or reissue (Void, refund, revalidation or reissue — which one this case needs).
